What it does

Each record covers one place: what it is, why it is worth the trip, and what you will actually see when you arrive. Entry fee, opening hours, suggested duration and coordinates are not buried in the prose — they are stored as fields and printed in the fact grid at the top of the page, so "is it worth it" can be answered before reading a word of the body.

Cities, places, food and routes are four separate sections, and a city page doubles as the door into everything in that city.

Three languages

The Turkish, English and Arabic versions are not machine translations of one another. Titles and summaries are rewritten in each language, because three readers look for the same place in three different phrases: "halep gezilecek yerler", "things to do in Aleppo", "أماكن سياحية في حلب".

A record is not considered finished until all three languages are published.

Cookies and measurement

No measurement script loads unless you explicitly accept: there is no Google Analytics on the page and no cookie is written. Decline and the site keeps working exactly the same way.

That is also why the maps are not embedded. They are rendered on our server at deploy time from OpenStreetMap tiles and served as static images from our own domain — looking at a map sends no request to a third party.

Money

Placement is not for sale: no paid listings, no sponsored records, no affiliate links. If that ever changes it will be stated plainly on the page it affects.
