What is Nebek famous for?
Nebek is known as the centre of the Qalamoun mountains and for Deir Mar Musa on the slope east of the town, whose church walls carry some of the best-preserved 11th and 12th-century frescoes in Syria. The country around it belongs to the same story: the monastery of Mar Yakub outside Qara, the windmills of Deir Atiyah, and the cathedral at Yabroud raised on the stones of a temple. The old caravan road between Damascus and Homs passed through here, and the modern highway follows the same line.
